Greetings Beekeepers! We are now accepting orders for the 2026 Bee Pick Up which is held annually on the grounds of the beautiful and Historic Greenbrier Farms in Chesapeake, VA with a second pick up in Aydlett, NC. Aydlett.

These are Overwintered Nucs – 5 DEEP FRAMES, PACKED TO THE BRIM WITH BROOD, FOOD, 1000s OF BEES, AND THEIR MATED AND LAYING QUEEN. Our bees are a hybrid mix of Carniolan/ Italian bees known for their intolerance toward the Varroa mite and are geared for honey production also able to withstand colder climate changes during winter months.

Our bees are State Inspected before Bee Pick Up and as always, we pass State Inspection with flying colors!

We are members of or are otherwise associated with the Norfolk Beekeepers Association, Tidewater Beekeepers Association, the Virginia Beach Bee Club, the North Carolina State Beekeepers Association, and Colonial Beekeepers Association.

Before we allow our beekeepers to pick up their bees, each nuc must be inspected by the State Apiarist to be sure the queens and worker bees are in good form exhibiting superb laying patterns and free of disease or mite infestation.

State Inspection is conducted by the State Apiarist to verify our premium genetic queens , workers, and brood are in top form , disease free and ready for their new hive homes.

We are privileged to offer these genetically superior, overwintered bees (NOT packages) from one of the finest apiaries in the US, the same bees provided by Brushy Mountain for many years. All bees are properly inspected and come with all appropriate credentials.

Our Bees

Our bee farmer has been breeding and refining his hives for over 40 years. The bees are an Italian-Carniolan hybrid with what they are calling “canine” hygienic behavior. They rip Varroa mites apart! Our mated queens are the result of years of research, dedication and hard work. Selected from the strongest stock and monitored throughout their development, our queens are young, healthy and laying. This is one way we are able to provide some of the best nucs available anywhere. The supplier is on the board of the American Honey Producers Association and works closely with Cornell Dyce Labs for Honeybee Studies, providing both bees and information for their research.

WHY PURCHASE OVERWINTERED NUCS?

Nucleus bee colonies established during the foraging season minimize colony loss by correcting queen issues. A queen who is already mated and laying will make for a much stronger hive going into winter. The young bees are also much less aggressive because they’re loyal to their queen.
The following spring, the hive will likely quickly be robust enough to split (keep it or sell it!) to prevent swarming, break the mite cycle and STILL produce a honey harvest.
Our nucs are among the very best Italian-Carniolan hybrids in the US, have superior genetics for hygienic behavior, attitude and honey. Overwintered in northern SC, it is possible for us to have them ready for delivery to our buyers in April, ready to rock and roll.

OUR NUCS

Our nucs are very robust 5-frame deeps that likely need splitting within a month AND will produce a honey harvest this year with proper beekeeping practices. We are transporting the bees in new weather resistant, lightweight Pro Nuc boxes (durable and recyclable) which are yours to keep. No frame exchange is necessary.
