Our Bees

Our bee farmer has been breeding and refining his hives for 40 years. This year’s bees are an Italian-Carniolan hybrid with what they are calling “canine” hygienic behavior. They rip Varroa mites apart! Our mated queens are the result of years of research, dedication and hard work. Selected from the strongest stock and monitored throughout their development, our queens are young, healthy and laying. This is one way we are able to provide some of the best nucs available anywhere. The supplier is on the board of the American Honey Producers Association and works closely with Cornell Dyce Labs for Honeybee Studies, providing both bees and information for their research.

WHY PURCHASE OVERWINTERED NUCS?

Nucleus bee colonies established during the foraging season minimize colony loss by correcting queen issues. A queen who is already mated and laying will make for a much stronger hive going into winter. The young bees are also much less aggressive because they’re loyal to their queen.
The following spring, the hive will likely quickly be robust enough to split (keep it or sell it!) to prevent swarming, break the mite cycle and STILL produce a honey harvest.
Our nucs are among the very best Italian-Carniolan hybrids in the US, have superior genetics for hygienic behavior, attitude and honey. Overwintered in northern SC, it is possible for us to have them ready for delivery to our buyers in April,  ready to rock and roll.

OUR NUCS

These nucs are very robust 5-frame deeps that likely need splitting within a month AND will produce a honey harvest this year with proper beekeeping practices.
